Diploma & Transcript Authentication (Apostille)

Niagara University grads are all around the world, and countries often require documents to be authenticated. An “authentication” (often called an “Apostille”) certifies the signature and the position of the official who has executed, issued or certified a copy of a document, and has you ready to send your NU credentials abroad. This page is a guide to certifying NU documents through Apostille.

NOTE: Not all countries accept documents certified by Apostille, but under the Hague Convention,  signatory countries  have agreed to recognize documents issued by other signatory countries. So if you’re heading to a country not listed in the signatory countries, or you are unsure if the particular entity will accept Apostille, you should contact the embassy or consulate of the country where you intend to use the document to discuss their authentication requirements.

  1. Review the basic information from the New York State Department
  2. Send a written request to the registrar in the Records Office for either a diploma or transcript to be authenticated by Apostille
  3. Bring the document(s) to the Niagara County Clerk’s Office.  They will affix their seal and signature
  4. Use the approved certificate of authentication request form to have all the signatures authenticated by the Department of State.

Request Transcript

Read instructions carefully when you order your transcript to avoid any unnecessary delays.

Enrollment Verification

Include your name during attendance, date of birth, student number, complete address, email or fax number where you would like the verification to be sent and your signature. Verifications are processed on a “first-come, first-served” basis, so please allow several days for processing.

Some companies requesting enrollment verification may have their own form that needs to be completed by the Records Office/registrar. If this is the case, please fax forms to 716-286-8678 or mail to:

Niagara University Records Office
PO Box 1914
Niagara University, NY 14109-1914

Any verification form bearing the seal of the university must be forwarded from the Records Office directly to the party requesting enrollment verification.

NOTE: We can verify attendance only for the current or previous semesters. If you are registered for the upcoming semester, we can verify only that you are “preregistered” until classes for that semester have begun. We are unable to verify attendance for future semesters for which you have not yet registered.

Express Mail Instructions

An optional express mail service is available for students at their own personal expense. International express delivery can take an estimated 3-5 business days. Delivery to Canada typically takes 1-2 days. All deliveries are subject to customs delays.

If you select this express service, you must pay for the DHL, UPS, or FedEx mailing using a credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover cards only) at the time of your request.

  1. Request University Express Mail Service
  2. Create a login and password (first-time users only)
  3. Students requesting I-20 documents should enter their name exactly as it appears on their passports. Students requesting other documents should enter the name on record with the university.
  4. Select Records & Financial Service Office as sender’s address (DO NOT select the MBA Office)
  5. Enter your student ID number (enter 12345 in the student ID field if you do not know your student ID number or do not have one assigned yet)
  6. Eshipglobal will notify us of your request; you do not need to contact us when completed.
  7. Once your documents have been scheduled for pick up from our office, you will be notified by email with the tracking number so you can track the delivery of the package.

Pay close attention to the information you are submitting, as errors in the credit card information or incorrect or incomplete address information will result in a delay in the delivery of your documents. Please note that arranging express mail is not a request for the documents you want sent. You must submit separate paperwork requesting the documents you need.
