Engaged Faculty

Prof. John Overbeck 1975 alum, returned to his alma mater in 2009 after spending over 30 years with IBM, most recently as their Managing Director for the Ford Motor Company. Overbeck brings his marketing experience to the classroom and says that, “Experience tells me that the most prepared graduate is one who has a good foundation of knowledge in their chosen field, a broad background in the liberal arts, and skills that have been developed through various experiences. That’s why I try to incorporate a ‘learn by doing’ philosophy in my classes. For example, student can memorize the elements of a good sales call, but will never fully grasp the concepts until they have had chance to try it in a practice setting. My hope is that my students have a good balance of theory and practical experience when they complete my course.”
