Professor Keller received his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame and joined the department in the fall of 2009. His primary areas of specialization are metaphysics and philosophy of language. He also has interests in epistemology, moral philosophy, philosophy of mind and the philosophy of math and logic.
Dr. Keller teaches Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Language, and Logic.
Dr. Keller's current research is primarily on the topic of paraphrase and, in particular, the role that paraphrase plays in philosophical inquiry. Understanding this role requires thinking about the relationships between the mind and language, logic and rationality, words and the world. His interest in paraphrase is a manifestation of a more general interest in the philosophy of philosophy, especially as it pertains to debates about realism and anti-realism. His research in the philosophy of language is primarily on realism and anti-realism issues, the distinction between semantics and pragmatics, and the nature of propositions.
Professor Keller is a member of the American Philosophical Association, the Philosophy of Time Society, and the American Catholic Philosophical Association.
