Biography


Mr. Ronald Winkley retired as Lewiston Police Chief in June 2007 after 26 years on the force.  He has served as a Faculty Fellow in CRJ since his retirement.  Professor Winkley teaches juvenile justice and law enforcement.  He also oversees our CJ internship program and students have opportunities in local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies.   In addition, Professor Winkley serves as the primary academic advisor for criminal justice majors.   As Chief, Professor Winkley was instrumental in the consolidation of the Village and Town of Lewiston police departments in 1996. He taught hundreds of Lewiston Porter students in his D.A.R.E. classes, and he was involved with the Niagara County WNY Chiefs.  Professor Winkley also served as a Village of Lewiston trustee in 2007 and then moved to the Town of Lewiston Council in 2010. For six years as a town councilman, Professor Winkley worked closely with many community organizations to improve the quality of life for residents. In 2016, Professor Winkley was named Town of Lewiston Citizen of the Year by the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce.  Professor Winkley has also been honored by Buffalo State Collage as an Outstanding Professional in the Criminal Justice Field, and Niagara County Community College honored him as a distinguished alumnus.  In addition to his outstanding career in law enforcement and his commitment to criminal justice education, Professor Winkley serves as a liaison for the Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy, he has been involved with Artpark, the Sanborn Area Historical Society, the Sanborn Business & Professional Association, the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, the Town Recreation Department, and area libraries.
