There are a few extra steps you’ll need to take as an international student entering the U.S., but our five step checklist is a good place to start. Applying to NU

Requirements and English Language Proficiency

The deadline for non-Canadian international students to apply for the Fall 2024 semester is May 1, 2024. The next entry term for these students is Spring 2025, with an application deadline of Nov. 1, 2024. Additional admission requirements for International Students follows:

Undergraduate Students Overview

Non-native English speakers seeking admission to Niagara University must verify their proficiency by submitting official English language proficiency test scores. Lower scores are waived for students who are interested in participating in our ESL program. Niagara University approves three tests to certify proficiency.

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Required score for unconditional acceptance: 6.0
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Required score for unconditional acceptance: 79
  • Duolingo English Test (DET) – Required score for unconditional acceptance: 110

English tests can be waived if:

  • Your native language is English
  • You were taught in the English medium
  • You spent one year or more studying in the United States
  • Your undergraduate institution is an accredited North American university

Graduate Students Overview

Niagara waives the English proficiency examination requirement for students scoring a 600 or higher on the GMAT/GRE.

  • TOEFL Internet Based: 79-80
  • IELTS: 6.0
  • CET 6: 450
