Dr. Thomas J. Sheeran

Biography


Dr. Thomas Sheeran is a professor and senior member of the faculty in the College of Education at Niagara University. The author of over fifty articles, book chapters and monographs, Dr. Sheeran has presented over one hundred papers and workshops at conferences and colleges across the United States, Canada and internationally.  Sheeran earned his bachelor’s degree and first master’s degree from Ithaca College. He subsequently earned a second master’s degree in educational administration from Niagara University, a certificate of advanced studies in educational administration from Niagara and a doctorate in education from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

In addition to his responsibilities as a faculty member, Sheeran has served as the Town Justice in the Town of Lewiston for over three decades having been re-elected every four years and is currently in his ninth term.

Dr. Thomas Sheeran’s current research focuses on active learning, cooperative learning and teacher candidate dispositions.

Current Involvement


Dr. Thomas Sheeran is a member or fellow of many professional education and judicial societies and has served in various leadership capacities in the New York State teacher education community including as President of the New York Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

In his judicial capacity Sheeran has served as a member of the senior faculty for the New York State Judicial Institute’s Continuing Education program for Town and Village Justices presenting programs in various venues across the State. His is currently serving as member of the New York State Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics, the first non-lawyer to have been appointed to this committee.
