Biography
Dr. Sevsem Cicek-Okay is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Niagara University. She received her B.S. and MA in Sociology from Cumhuriyet University in Turkey. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from University of Cincinnati in 2020. Her dissertation is titled “Patterns and Trends in Spatial Assimilation of Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Immigrants in the United States, 2000-2016.” Her substantive area of expertise includes the sociology of immigration, gender, race and ethnicity, Middle Eastern and North African populations, and quantitative and qualitative research methods. Dr. Cicek-Okay conducts research on the sociology of immigration in terms of their assimilation and incorporation experiences in host societies.

Current Research
Dr. Cicek-Okay’s current work examines the residential segregation and spatial dispersion of the MENA population in the U.S, public attitudes towards immigrants in Europe, the suburbanization of the MENA population in the U.S., and the integration experiences of Syrian refugees in the U.S.
