Dr. Naima Bhana

Biography


Dr. Naima Bhana, BCBA-D is an assistant professor in special education and applied behavior analysis at Niagara University in Lewiston, NY. Through her scholarship, she supports caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities with a focus on caregivers from Latinx backgrounds. She teaches caregivers naturalistic strategies they can implement during routine activities to increase the child’s socio-communicative and behavior skills. Additionally, she also investigates recruitment and retention strategies for special educators of color. She uses single-case and qualitative methodologies to create interventions that will improve the quality of life of families and of teachers of color in the USA and Latin America.

Naima received her doctorate in special education from Penn State University and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida State University. She has published and presented at national and international conferences in English and Spanish on the topics of Autism Spectrum Disorders, Diversity and Equity in Special Education, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
