Program Overview

Credits: 36 credits

Our Religious Studies academic program explores the nature of religion and its impact on history, culture, and society. This is a unique offering, grounded in the Catholic Vincentian tradition of Niagara University, that will give you crucial insight into understanding the world and society, whether you are personally religious or not.

Within the global religious landscape, we focus on the great monotheistic traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and how it is practiced through ritual, belief, art, and more. You’ll receive personalized instruction from the faculty and participate in research and activities alongside them, including Study Abroad trips to Rome, Italy.

What You’ll Study at Niagara University

Coursework in Religious Studies encompasses different topics and approaches. We don’t just rehash the familiar but seek new information and new perspectives in a collaborative quest for the truth. Our courses consider the concept of death in different faith traditions, magic in fantasy literature, and the evolution of Christian views on women and marriage.

The major program in religious studies includes four interrelated areas of study: comparative religion, biblical studies, Christianity, and religious ethics.
