Program Overview

Credits: 124 credits with 38 credits in Math, 24 credits in business and 3 credits in computer science.

As a student of actuarial science, you’ll blend theory from math, business, finance, and economics into practice in this interdisciplinary major. Our students learn about the commonalities and science between math and business with individual instruction in small classes.

Your coursework will combine mathematics, general business, finance, and computer science to help you pass the first two actuarial exams while developing marketable skills for your post-graduate career.

Individualized Instruction

With a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio, you’ll study closely under six dedicated faculty members with a variety of expertise and interests. You’ll learn from them, travel with them to conferences, and even consult them for internships and career opportunities.

Research Opportunities

You’ll conduct research on the topic of your choosing for your senior thesis, with honors students working on two semester timelines. There are additional chances to work alongside faculty members on projects to present and/or publish.

Experiential Learning

Many of our statistics students complete internships with other departments on campus, including Institutional Research, Alumni Giving, or Study Abroad.

Actuarial Science is rated one of the best jobs in America.  The growing industry has many opportunities in insurance, banking and finance.  The coursework combines math, finance, economics, statistics and computer science to give you a wide range of problem-solving skills so that you’ll be desired in the job market.  The curriculum prepares students to pass the first two actuarial exams.

This coursework prepares the students to take the first 2 actuarial exams: Exam P and Exam FM.
