Our Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner program will prepare registered nurses with a bachelor’s degree for the advanced practice role of a health care provider. As an FNP, you’ll be able to provide care for patients of all ages, and in a variety of medical settings.
This two-year program will elevate you into one of the fastest growing occupations: FNP. Courses are only held one day per week to afford you the opportunity to continue working in the field and build your nursing experience while studying for this advanced degree. Our comprehensive education includes clinical practicums where you’ll work one-on-one with a preceptor, the use of simulations, and smaller class sizes for individualized attention.

- Must have an earned Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing
- Current licensed registered nurse in NYS or Ontario, Canada
- Letters of recommendation: 2

Expert Faculty
Our program is led by regionally and nationally recognized faculty who are licensed nurse practitioners who are currently practicing in the field. The faculty have experience in pediatric, adult and older adult medicine, primary, acute, research, and palliative care.
On-Campus Learning Labs
We have a state-of-the-art simulation center where you can safely navigate a variety of medical situations, especially high risk scenarios. High fidelity mannequins, virtual reality tech, and the use of simulated patient actors are used throughout.
Preparation for Advanced Certification
Graduates of our program will be eligible to sit for the FNP national board certification offered by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

What You’ll Study at Niagara University
This innovative 49-credit program affords learners 780 direct patient care and simulated clinical hours in accordance with NTF standards for NP education. As an FNP student, you’ll engage with advanced health assessment, pathophysiology, and pharmacology, as well as the medical management of people throughout their life.
Knowledge, skills, and competencies for advanced practice nursing and FNP specialty care are built across the curriculum. Our program will also feature courses that address professional development, leadership, research, and healthcare policy and management.
