Biography
Steve has served as Artistic Director for Niagara University Theatre, the producing arm of the Department of Theatre and Fine Arts, since 2011. In addition to directing two productions per year, his responsibilities include season selection, identifying and hiring guest directors and designers, and maintenance of the theatre’s budget. Additionally, Steve teaches first-year Acting Foundations classes which provide the backbone of the eight-semester acting sequence for Performance majors.
Prior to coming to NU, Steve served as Artistic Director of The Gifford Family Theatre, a theatre for young audiences in residence at Le Moyne College. He has held teaching positions in central New York and Massachusetts and has served in the Education Departments at both Syracuse Stage and the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston, MA. As an actor, Steve’s work has encompassed Shakespeare, contemporary stage work, commercials and voiceover work, including multiple audiobooks.
Current Research
Steve has been working on raising awareness of actors’ health and comfort in the theatrical space through intimacy choreography and consent-based pedagogy.
