Biography
Dr. Emily Lee-Chong is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Niagara University (CACREP accredited). She teaches courses in counseling children and adolescents, counseling theories, advanced counseling techniques, multicultural counseling, and clinical field experiences, including practicum and internship.
She earned her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Duquesne University and is a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Before entering counselor education, Dr. Lee-Chong gained clinical experience working in domestic violence and sexual assault agencies, crisis centers, and college counseling settings. Her clinical work has included individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and supporting individuals with diverse needs. These experiences continue to inform her teaching, supervision, and scholarship.
Dr. Lee-Chong’s research interests include counselor wellness and counselor development and supervision. Her work focuses on helping counselors develop sustainable practices that support their well-being and professional growth. She is also a frequent presenter at national, regional, and state conferences, where she provides trainings on wellness, counselor development and supervision, and culturally responsive practices.
At Niagara University, Dr. Lee-Chong is involved with the Office of Violence Prevention and Education and serves as a certified Green Dot Facilitator. Through this work, she contributes to campus efforts focused on violence prevention and fostering a culture of bystander engagement.
Dr. Lee-Chong is actively involved in the counseling profession through her editorial and professional service. She serves on the editorial board of the International Journal for the Advancement of Counselling and as an Associate Editor for Wellness Counseling Quarterly, a journal of the International Association for Wellness Counseling (IAWC). Her contributions to the field of wellness counseling have been recognized with the IAWC Innovative Wellness Practice Award.
Through her teaching, clinical work, scholarship, and professional service, Dr. Lee-Chong supports the development of counselors who are prepared to provide compassionate, culturally responsive care while maintaining their own well-being throughout their careers.
