Description
Made possible by the generous gift of Rose Bente Lee Ostapenko, this program is an opportunity for Niagara University students to deepen their understanding of the ethical issues and challenges that exist in healthcare and medicine. The program is directed by the Rose Bente Lee Ostapenko Endowed Director of Professional Ethics (herein after referred to as the “Director.”) The program does not require that students take additional courses to their major/s and minor/s requirements. Nor are any specific courses required other than general education requirements. It is intended to be a flexible program in which students can pursue relevant topics that fall within their own interests and fields of study. Students will receive a special distinction on their transcript, an award certificate, and will be recognized at commencement and given a pin to wear.
Eligibility
The program is open to all NU students (regardless of major) who have completed, or are in the process of completing, 45 credit hours (current coursework plus currently enrolled courses). Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, or have special permission of the Director. Students must register for the program at least one semester before their final semester at NU.
Requirements
In order to successfully complete the program, students must meet the following requirements:
- Officially register for the program at least one semester prior to graduation.
- Attend a minimum of five Center Events.
- Complete a portfolio analyzing and reflecting upon ethics in healthcare and medicine that they have investigated through center events, their coursework, and their overall experience at Niagara University.
