Early Childhood and Special Education (Birth - 2)

Master of Science in Education
Online Program

Overview of Early Childhood and Special Education Program

Early Childhood and Special Education (B-2) program leads to initial and professional New York state teacher certifications in both early childhood education (birth through grade two) and students with disabilities (birth through grade two).

An educator is also a lifelong learner. For current teachers, a graduate degree can lead to professional certification in NY State or can help you specialize your career and may qualify you for a salary increase or promotion. For professionals in a non-teaching career who have a bachelor’s degree but want to move into a teaching career, an M.S.Ed. in teaching could be the path you’re looking for.

Graduates of the program will be able to serve as teachers, leaders and directors of early childhood programs, development specialists, teacher educators, etc., in a variety of early childhood and educational settings.

Early childhood and early childhood special educators in today’s world are dedicated professionals who want to make a difference in the lives of young children. They appreciate and embrace the diverse range of the needs of their students and families. They remain lifelong learners as they seek out and implement validated practices that are supported by research in the field.

They are able to work effectively within a variety of settings, situations and personalities. Early childhood and early childhood special education teachers are able to assess and evaluate student progress; make appropriate accommodations and deliver individualized instruction that is based upon each student’s individual educational program. Finally, early childhood and early childhood special educators are constant agents of positive change in an exciting field.

Prepares teachers by meeting the NAEYC and CEC standards for advanced programs.

Hannah Benson
During my [time] at Niagara University, I learned so much from my professors and enjoyed small classes that allowed me to connect with my peers and deeply engage in the content and concepts. I am incredibly grateful to Niagara University for helping me to obtain my current position by preparing me to succeed in the interview and job search process, and to work meaningfully and effectively in my subsequent career.”
