The Right Choice - A Student’s Perspective

Deciding on a college or university is a decision we all have to make as we continue on our journey to becoming teachers and counselors. The decision is never a simple one. There are many factors to consider and questions we seek answers to when choosing where to complete one’s degree.

Entering into my senior year as an undergraduate, I knew I had to get the ball rolling on applications for a graduate degree program. Niagara University’s school counseling program caught my eye immediately. With the small class sizes and low student-to-faculty ratio, I knew I would get the personal attention I wanted while completing my degree.

I requested information on the program, and received a newsletter for the program in an email the next day. Soon after, I received an informational packet in the mail the following week. Within the packet, I was assigned an advisor I could contact immediately with any questions I had - and I did have many.

One of the most important factors when deciding on a graduate school institution, at least for me, was affordability. I found Niagara’s pricing to be very competitive, and that there were numerous opportunities to help offset the costs. Niagara offers their students graduate employment opportunities, as well as chances at receiving additional financial aid through awards, grants, and scholarships. NU also has a few programs that are completely online and offered at reduced rates!

Once I had a relatively thorough understanding of what Niagara University had to offer, and what being a student there would help me accomplish, the next obvious step was to apply. At Niagara, the application process is available fully online and very easy to navigate! It was such a relief to get the daunting task of actually completing the application process out of the way.

Now that I have started my program, I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. Niagara has me starting my field experiences my second semester here, and I know all of my professors and advisors on a personal basis; and it’s only the second week! Niagara University was definitely the right choice for me – make it the right choice for you too!
