Niagara University recognizes that smoking any substance presents a public health hazard. The University is dedicated to providing a healthy, comfortable and educationally productive learning environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors. As such, it shall be the policy that smoking will not be allowed in either indoor or outdoor areas of the campus except for designated outdoor areas.
This policy applies to all employees, students, visitors, contractors and externally affiliated individuals or companies renting university-owned space on university-owned and operated property campus grounds.
All Niagara University students, faculty, staff, contractors and visitors must comply with this policy. Individuals observed smoking on the campus will be informed and asked to stop.
Organizers of public events, such as conferences, meetings, public lectures, social events and cultural events using campus facilities must advise participants in such events of this policy and require compliance.
Violators may be provided education, offered a referral for smoking cessation and/or may be subject to disciplinary action as indicated below.
Persons in violation of this policy may be subject to the following:
- Students will be referred to the appropriate student conduct office. Violation of this policy is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
- Employees will be referred to their supervisor and/or appointing authority for appropriate action.
- Contractors will be referred to their respective employers for appropriate action.
Visitors will be required to leave the campus if they fail to conform to the policy when advised.
