Shannon Hodges
Associate Professor of Counseling
Through a colleague at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia, I volunteered with a remote school counselor (school counselors do mental health counseling, not traditional school counseling). I spent the months of June and July, 2013, providing co-counseling, individual counseling, observation, consultation, and made numerous presentations on the effects of trauma for the Katherine Remote Area Group Schools, which educate Aboriginal children and adolescents in Australia’s remote Northern Territory. The school group comprises 15 remote and very remote indigenous schools in an area larger than New York state.
