NU Grads Get Jobs: Andrea Nicolia

My experience at Niagara University was absolutely amazing! I completed my undergraduate degree in English education (Grades 5-12) and special education (Grades 7-12) in May of 2014. Niagara University allowed me to be in the classroom beginning the first semester of my freshman year. Thus, by the time I student taught, I had already been in nearly 10 different classrooms, working with students of all ages and abilities.

When it came time for my graduate studies, I knew I wanted to stay in the education field. I was always drawn to school counseling and loved that I would still be able to work with children, while assisting them in a different capacity. During my master’s program, I completed three practicum placements as well as a yearlong internship. My internship was at Buffalo Public School #89, giving me the opportunity to work with students in a very high-needs setting.

Prior to my graduation in May of this year, I began my job search. Fortunately, I was able to work as a short-term substitute in a school counseling position at Grand Island High School right after I graduated. I was in this role until the end of June and, during this time, I was able to land a full-time job at Starpoint Middle School as a school counselor! I absolutely love my job! This year, I will be serving as the eighth grade school counselor! I feel so fortunate for the education and valuable experiences that Niagara has given me, preparing me to find a job in a highly competitive market right out of college!
