The transition from being a Lockport Lion to a Niagara Purple Eagle was exciting, yet absolutely terrifying all at once. I was thrilled because I was finally able to choose my own path and build a strong character for myself. I was able to pick my own courses and make a schedule that worked best for me.
At the same time, I had many thoughts racing in my head about keeping high grades, making new friends, becoming involved, being semi-financially stable, and, most of all, living with a stranger. College was something I thought was a long ways away. But before I knew it, I was packing my car and driving off to a new place that little did I know would make me the happiest I have ever been in my life.
Move-in day was surprisingly very smooth! There was help as soon as I was on Witmer Road to direct me where to go and there were many students assisting me in moving my items into my dorm room. There was enough time to move everything in, grab a bite to eat and to say goodbye to my family. I was even able to help my roommate get situated into our room as well! This was a great opportunity to bond with her and to organize our room together!
Along with moving into my dorm room, New Student Orientation (or NSO) was a great way for me to become accustomed to the college lifestyle. There were plenty of activities for me to participate in and many opportunities to meet other freshmen in my class. Ice-breaker games could be found around every corner, and I found myself meeting more people than I expected! The people I met at NSO I am still friends with now, and I couldn't be more blessed to have a such a fantastic group of friends! New Student Orientation was extremely helpful for me because it took my mind off of the huge transition I was enduring.
The classes here at Niagara University are another reason why I am completely in love with this school. The professors are exceptional and work very hard to make sure they satisfy my needs as a student. They are all very approachable if I have an issue or any type of conflict and I have no problem going to them with any questions.
I feel important and I feel as though my opinion matters to them. The professors make me feel intelligent and I know their main goal is to enhance what specialties I already have. They make class interesting and school now has a very different meaning to me than it did in high school. I go to class now because I want to and not because I have to. It is absolutely wonderful wanting to become more knowledgeable out of a spark that has been lit within myself.
Overall, I am a happier and healthier person since I have been here. I cannot picture myself at any other school and there is never a moment where I regret choosing to come to Niagara. This school has already provided me with many opportunities for success and I cannot wait to see what more there is to come. I’m not just at a school; I’m in a community filled with people who cannot wait to see me succeed, and will always wish me the best of luck.
Niagara, without a doubt, will get me to my utopia and I will be forever grateful for the abundance of success I will gain from attending this school!
