The Niagara Region has lots to offer!
Hello! My name is Courtney, and I’m a graduate student at Niagara University. I recently finished my undergraduate degree from the College of Hospitality here, and have now started a Master of Business Administration with a focus on international business.
I also work for the university as a graduate resident director for the Office of Residence Life. As a resident director, I help students in their living situations, plan events for them, and manage a small staff of community advisors that oversee two different areas on campus. So between classes and work I’m very involved on campus.
I love living in the Niagara area. The campus is perfectly situated between the small town of Lewiston and downtown Niagara Falls. This past weekend, Lewiston had the Craft and Fall Harvest Festival on Center Street. There were local artists who made everything from paintings and birdhouses to local jams and hand-written cards. The whole street was lined with little tents of vendors and the smell of the food was incredible. Many of the local farmers were there, too, with fresh apples and vegetables from the end of summer and fall harvest.
There was also a Wildlife Festival at the Power Vista, right next to campus, this past weekend. They had the Lewiston Police Department there doing demonstrations with the German shepherds that work with the department. They had many rescued owls and birds of prey for everyone to see close up. I even got to meet an officer of the Niagara River Angler Association and I’m considering getting a membership with them. I grew up in the 1000 Islands every summer and my family all resides in the Canandaigua Lake area outside of Rochester, N.Y, so fishing is one of my favorite pastimes.
