Balancing School and Work

Grace Hetterscheidt is a current graduate student in the MBA program working as a graduate assistant in the Academic Affairs office.

My name is Grace Hetterscheidt and I am a graduate student here at Niagara University, studying Global Business and Supply Chain Management. I also attended here for my undergraduate bachelor’s degree as a student athlete and was captain of the volleyball team while pursuing a major in business marketing. While being a student athlete for the past 13 years, I have become comfortable with balancing academics and athletics. This year is a little different because of what used to be my job as an athlete to balance with my school work, is now changed to balancing my graduate assistant job with my workload. Managing the two have many similarities in that they both require staying organized and on top of major assignments and tasks. There are also always new things to be learned and questions to be asked!

Currently, I work in the Dunleavy building in room 344 with Academic Affairs. I will be graduating in the spring of 2022, making this a one year MBA program. My position involves assisting full time and adjunct professors in the English, Communications, Mathematics, Philosophy, and Religious Studies departments. Some tasks I do involve attending and scheduling meetings and events, updating advisor lists, and updating professors with any new insight to upcoming events. There will be more activities and events that I will experience in the coming semester that I am very excited about as well!

I chose to continue my 5th year education at Niagara University because from the beginning, this university has felt like home and their master’s program is very successful. I love the location of being right next to the falls and going on hikes by the gorge as well! I also appreciate the smaller classroom sizes and having more one on one time with my professors. I loved the work and education environment during my undergrad so I thought it would only be beneficial to start and finish my graduate program here as well! So far, this program has been nothing but helpful and welcoming which I know will only continue from here!
