Julia Gellman, a junior business management major with a minor in marketing secured an internship last summer with OSEA Inc. as the product outreach and growth manager intern. She is already planning ahead, stating that she will continue her education at Niagara to pursue getting her MBA upon graduation.
How did you secure the opportunity?
I secured the opportunity through the website Handshake.
What did you do on a daily basis?
On a daily basis I would make 30-50 phone calls informing new and current clients of the company’s updated safety package, including the new app Safety Badger. I would also update social media spreadsheets and create social media posts for Facebook and Twitter. I would also attend meetings with my manager and boss, including creating and presenting updated analysis reports regarding the phone calls. I would also update the company log with clients and customers interested in our cell phone app, Safety Badger.
Most importantly, what did you learn?
Aside from all of the business correspondence, working with my coworkers, and learning to sell and write sales scripts, I learned a great deal about myself and what I would like to pursue moving forward in business. It honestly got me really excited about my future.
What advice do you have for future students?
My biggest advice for students moving forward is to understand your personal strengths and utilize them to your advantage in the workplace. This will take you far.
If you have worked with Career Services, how have they helped you?
I came to career services with my resume and cover letter before I started applying for internships on Handshake. They helped me edit and revise it to perfection, ultimately leading to my phone interview and then in person interview with OSEA Inc. where I was ultimately hired.
