2019 food & CPG carketing major, Julia Holcomb, interned with Rosina Food Products in their marketing department last summer. Following her May 2019 graduation, Julia will be working with the marketing department at Wegmans and pursuing her MBA at Niagara.
How did you secure the opportunity?
I first met the marketing heads of Rosina Food Products at Niagara's Career Expo and then later filled out the application through Career Services. I officially secured the job after consistently following up via email, then completing two interviews. The first interview was on campus and the second interview was more in depth at their headquarters in Cheektowaga. After the second interview, I was offered the internship.
What did you do on a daily basis?
I tended to the needs of the marketing team and marketing head, Chris Tirone. Each day was something new from working on SKUs, editing the packaging to find a common error, working on marketing research, etc. My big project was working on the ultimate retailer matrix which consisted of comparing prices from retailers across the US of our brands and our competitors.
Most importantly, what did you learn?
I learned how to work in a business environment and see how different departments function. Not only was I working with marketing, but I was also working with supply chain and sales teams.
What advice do you have for future students?
Don’t be afraid to send that second email.
How did NU's Office of Career Services help you?
I've attended several of Career Services events, which helped me get my first internship. They have also helped me create my resume.
