Ashley Decker just graduated in December 2018 from Niaqara's newest program, Food and Consumer Packaged Goods Marketing. While continuing her education at Niagara with an MBA, Ashley has been working at Rich Products in Buffalo, NY as a foodservice marketing intern on the pizza team.
How did you secure the opportunity?
Rich Products reached out to a professor of mine and asked if she recommended any students for the position. My name was given to them and within a few days I had my first interview. After three rounds of interviews, I was hired for the position.
What did you do on a daily basis?
I maintain our freezer inventory, pull reports based on consumer trends, help develop and launch new products, work with our product and competitors, sit in on client meetings, and help develop and launch ad campaigns.
Most importantly, what did you learn?
I have learned so much about the industry I plan to work in, as well as how to present yourself as a professional in a work environment. I am much more comfortable with writing professional emails, traveling with coworkers, and going to corporate dinners. Through my work, I have been able to see how what I am learning in my classes are being applied in the everyday work of this billion dollar company.
What advice do you have for future students?
Getting an internship can be intimidating, however there are always people who are willing to help you. Professors are great resources to use because they have connections with people looking for talent. It’s also never too early to start looking because before you know it, you will be a senior.
How did NU's Office of Career Services help you?
I worked with career services and they helped me write a concise and complete resume. They also used their contacts with Rich Products to help get my foot in the door.
