Daniella Hopper, an accounting major from Barrie, Ontario will graduate in May 2020. In the summer of 2019, Daniella worked as an accounting intern at the Merani Hotel Group. Upon graduation, she plans on completing her MBA in accounting at Niagara University, and sitting for the CPA exam in 2021.
How did you secure the opportunity?
I secured this opportunity by applying for an accounting internship in the fall of 2018. Career Services helped me through the process of obtaining this position.
What did you do on a daily basis?
On a daily basis, I was responsible for preparing financial reports, such as balance sheets, income statements, invoices and other documents. I handled the daily cash reporting and bank reconciliations.
Most importantly, what did you learn?
Overall, I learned more during this internship than any class could ever teach me. I learned how to work with a team to accomplish jobs. I worked alongside motivating and experienced coworkers who enhanced my overall accounting knowledge.
What advice do you have for future students?
My advice for future students is to get your foot in the door and complete an internship during your college experience. An internship is an amazing way to get experience and gain knowledge about your field.
