Hailey D'Hont, a senior finance major from Rochester, N.Y., took MGT 390, a Management Information Systems course required by all business majors that includes a practice interview component in Career Services. Although the interview is geared to help students further develop interview skills and gain confidence, Hailey successfully secured a recruiting internship at MassMutual New York State along the way!
How did you secure the opportunity?
In my MGT 390 course, we were required to do a practice interview. After my interview, I was offered this internship.
What did you do on a daily basis?
I created a database for people they could potentially hire, recreated an old excel document, helped set up and organize networking and recruiting events.
Most importantly, what did you learn?
I learned the importance of interpersonal skills, it is crucial to be able to communicate with people.
What advice do you have for future students?
Have as many experiences as possible.
How did NU's Office of Career Services help you?
Career Services hosted the practice interviews for my MGT 390 class with recruiters from real companies outside the university. Without that practice interview, I probably wouldn’t have had the opportunity to have this internship.
