May 2019 grad, Brady Siwek, interned as a marketing and special events assistant with the United Way of Greater Niagara, leading him to a full-time role as a business development associate with the non-profit organization.
How did you secure the opportunity?
Through communicating with others and making connections.
What did you do on a daily basis?
I ran the organization's social media accounts, created informational flyers for events and drives and coordinated the two biggest events we host, Day of Caring and Make a Difference Day. As a marketing major and communication studies minor, this utilized my skills from both fields.
Most importantly, what did you learn?
I have learned that communication is key. Do not burn bridges, you never know what is in store for you next!
What advice do you have for future students?
My advice for future students would be to stay involved. Go and talk to as many people as you possibly can. You never know who knows who, and sometimes that can open up a bright door.
How did NU's Office of Career Services help you?
Career Services has helped in many ways, from resume touch ups to creating connections.
