Deanna Sornerberger knew she wanted to attend Niagara at a very young age and loved the university from the moment she stepped foot on campus in kindergarten. Now a proud 2019 alum, Deanna used her marketing skills and knowledge to work as an intern, turned part-time then full-time employee at QBC Systems in Amherst, NY working as Director of Sales and Marketing.
How did you secure the opportunity?
I started my career at QBC Systems as an intern. In this role as Marketing Assistant, I showed up everyday on time and ready to work. Even if I was asked to do something I was uncomfortable with, I was willing to learn. During my senior year, the company reached back out to offer me a part-time position, which led me to being extended an offer for a full-time salaried position.
What did you do on a daily basis?
I practiced making cold calls, sent out emails promoting upcoming webinars and live demos, maintained their website and assisted in live demos.
Most importantly, what did you learn?
In sales, you need to learn how to accept that some people just do not want to hear your pitch. I have learned how to be comfortable in these types of uncomfortable situations.
What advice do you have for future students?
Never give up. One day you will find yourself exactly where you hoped to be.
How did NU's Office of Career Services help you?
Career Services helped me build my resume and prepare for interviews.
