Identifying and Dismantling Racial Injustice Task Force

Dear members of the Niagara University community,

Niagara University is deeply engaged in work that will identify racial injustice and develop comprehensive recommendations for change on our campus and in the broader community.

The “Identifying and Dismantling Racial Injustice Task Force” has presented me with its initial report, and I have reviewed the report and the recommended actions. I have shared this information with members of the campus community, and our community partners in the region – and I have communicated with them that I have accepted all of the recommendations from the group.

I am incredibly grateful and humbled by the comprehensive work of the task force and all those across campus who provided input and suggestions. I want to thank the chairs, Dr. Rolanda L. Ward and Kara M. Oliver, as well as the members of the task force: Margarita Coyne, Averl Harbin, Jordan Kawaya, ’21, Donna Mostiller, Lovell Lee, ’22, Justin Roberts, ’20, Rev. Aidan Rooney, C.M., Dr. Todd Schoepflin, Derick Thornton, Dr. Sylvia Valentin, and Dr. Vennessa Walker. As a group, they have been engaged, insightful, and innovative, and the results of their work will guide us as we move forward.

I would like to thank you in advance for joining me in this critical work. Together, we can mark this time in history and implement urgent actions and systemic recommendations that address racial injustice.
With continued prayer for change,

James J. Maher, C.M.
