Dustin Malara, a 2019 business grad from Syracuse, N.Y., continued networking with his previous employers through LinkedIn, setting him up for success in his full-time role as a sales development representative at Alleyoop in Buffalo, N.Y..

How did you secure the opportunity?

My previous manager, Brian, found me on LinkedIn.

What did you do on a daily basis?

I work with multiple clients in the Education space and assist with their sales development. I cold call, email, and use LinkedIn and qualify prospects and then pass them off to my clients to present their demo/sales offering.

Most importantly, what did you learn?

I have learned how to manage my time and truly work hard due to this role. I have learned that hard work truly pays off and that getting a job in the industry I wanted to work in before school was one of the best decisions that I could have made. I have learned how to overcome objections and truly become a good salesman.

What advice do you have for future students?

Start job searching as soon as possible. Don’t wait until after graduation to start a job in your industry. Start today, utilize platforms like LinkedIn to create connections and truly set yourself up for success.
