As a graduate student working as a graduate assistant in the Controller's office, I can honestly say I would not be where I am today if it weren't for all of the amazing opportunities Niagara University has given me.
I attended undergrad at Niagara and loved every minute of it therefore it was a no brainer for me to get my MBA at Niagara in the accelerated master’s 4+1 program. Throughout my undergraduate years I prided myself on getting involved. I was a member of the Niagara University student government association, Beta Alpha Psi, accounting society, and the club softball and club basketball teams all during my 4 years here at Niagara. The opportunities these clubs brought me have helped me develop into the person I am today. Currently, I am coaching the club softball team which has been a great transition for me to stay involved in the sport that I love and stay involved as a graduate student!
While Niagara has given me so many extracurricular opportunities, Niagara has also helped me launch my career. The connections and opportunities offered by the accounting department and career services helped me secure internships at Columbus McKinnon and Deloitte during my time at Niagara. This past summer I interned with Deloitte and was offered a full time job opportunity for the fall of 2022. Niagara has done a great job helping me build connections that have allowed me to obtain this job opportunity even before graduating with my MBA.
My graduate assistant position in the Controller's Office is also something that has given me an opportunity to be exposed to more accounting functions. My day to day tasks include creating purchase orders, vouchering, assisting with check runs and approving expense reports. Being exposed to these different functions will do so much to help in the future when I have to audit these processes.
Lastly, Niagara has helped prepare me to get certified as a public accountant by obtaining my CPA license. The MBA program offers a CPA review class that has helped me learn helpful tips and tricks to passing the exam. The professors who teach the course are all CPA’s themselves and have a wealth of knowledge and expertise to share with the students that you don’t find at many other MBA programs. Having this support system has been a great addition to my graduate school journey.
Overall attending Niagara for my graduate degree has been one of the best decisions of my life due to the endless opportunities this university has brought me!
