Components of the VPS Fellow Distinction

The VPS Fellow is designed to provide an opportunity for students with limited opportunities to undertake a minor. It allows these students to conduct some in-depth study of poverty and to be acknowledged for their study, interest and effort.

Requirements include:

  • SWK 120 Addressing Poverty
  • 225 documented  Learn and Serve hours in agencies that have a specific focus on working with those in poverty. Summer internships, such as the Shepherd Alliance Internship, can be used to meet this requirement.
  • A senior thesis that focuses on poverty in combination with the student’s major field of study must also be completed and approved by the VPS minor chairperson.
