Rob Kaiser has covered major national stories and written award-winning narrative series for the Chicago Tribune, served as the writing coach and assistant managing editor in charge of special projects at daily newspapers in Texas and Wisconsin, been the executive editor of twin dailies in Western New York, written editorials and columns for The Cincinnati Enquirer, and served as director of the journalism program at Canisius College, where he was a full-time assistant professor of communications studies. Besides the Tribune and the Enquirer, Rob’s work has appeared in Chicago Tribune Magazine, The Washington Post, Buffalo Spree, At Buffalo magazine, and Best Newspaper Writing 2000. Projects he wrote for the Tribune include a serialized narrative on life in Sears Tower after 9/11; a four-part series on the fatal shooting of a rookie cop and the systemic problems within the Chicago Police Department that put him in harm’s way; and “Home Front: An American Journal”—a series of dispatches from a three-month, cross-country road trip exploring how 9/11 affected life in America. Rob lives in Amherst with his wife, Laurie, and their two sons, Sawyer and Jacob.
