Bio

Dr. Shannon Risk is an associate professor of history at Niagara University where she teaches courses in progressive era U.S. history, Canadian studies, and public history, and manages the women’s studies and public history minors. She holds her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Maine, where she also earned a Fulbright scholarship in the 2008-2009 academic year. She is a 2018 inductee of the New York Academy of History. She serves on several boards related to Canadian-American studies and public history. Her most recent publications center on the women’s suffragists of the Buffalo-Niagara frontier in Western New York. Previous to her academic career, she worked as a museum professional in New York, Texas, and California. She is currently working on a biography of Maine-born women’s suffragist Elizabeth Upham Yates.
