Bio

Dr. Bhattacharyay joined Niagara University in August 2018 as an assistant professor in Management at Niagara University's College of Business Administration. She completed her bachelor's degree (BA) in Economics from Cornell and her first masters degree in public administration (MPA) with thesis at Cornell University. She went on to do her second masters (MSc.) in Management with thesis at the Queens School of Business and completed her doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Management at McGill University's Desautels Faculty of Management, specializing in strategic management and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Bhattacharyay's doctoral thesis contributes to the strategy and entrepreneurship literature by synthesizing social network and resource dependence perspectives to explore the types of networks male and female entrepreneurs have for resource mobilization in an emerging economy context. The thesis then examines how these types of social networks in terms of tie strength, diversity, density and size interact with resource dependence to impact the business decision making processes and operations of male and female entrepreneurs in an emerging economy context.

Dr. Bhattacharyay's research has been published in several outlets. She also has several proceedings in reputed management conferences such as the Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society, European Group for Organizational Studies, Administrative Science Association of Canada among others.  Dr. Bhattacharyay currently serves on Niagara University's Diversity Committee along with other department and College of Business related committees. Dr. Bhattacharyay is an active member and contributor to the Academy of Management and its associated journals. She is also a member of the Pi Alpha Alpha National Honorary Society at Cornell and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society at Niagara University.

During the course of her academic career, Dr. Bhattacharya has held several research and/or teaching positions in institutions such as Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management, Harvard Kennedy School, Queen's University and McGill University. Prior to her doctorate studies, Dr. Bhattacharyay was a visiting scholar at the Graduate Research Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo, Japan. She also worked as a researcher at the Research Institute for Economy Trade and Industry (RIETI), a leading research and policy think tank in Japan with Dr. Yasuyuki Sawada, Chief economist at the Asian Development Bank.
