Bio
Dr. Joe Caruso first joined the faculty in 2015 as a visiting professor of Operations Management. Joe grew up in a small apple farming community in the Hudson Valley which is located halfway between Albany and New York City. After receiving economic degrees from Stony Brook and Penn State, he began his career in 1978 with IBM Corporation, Poughkeepsie, NY as a systems analyst.
During his 34 years with IBM, Joe served in various analytical positions including supply chain, software reliability, market research, and forecasting. Along the way in 1993 Joe earned his Ph.D. from Union College in the area of applied statistics. In his last position with IBM Joe modeled business processes and implemented business intelligence solutions on an international scale.
As a statistician Joe was president of the Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Statistical Association. While in Product Assurance Joe published several external articles in the areas of software reuse and reliability. As a market researcher, he was granted a U.S. patent in the area of survey analysis.
Joe's interest at Niagara University is to show students how textbook analytics can be applied to real world business situations. On a personal note, Joe likes to spend time on his John Deere 4310 farm tractor digging holes and mowing fields.
