Arriving to Niagara University

Flying to the United States

The US government has recently updated COVID testing requirements for entry into the US.  Now all individuals arriving from abroad are required to take a COVID test within 24 hours of departure and be fully vaccinated. Alternatively, travelers to the United States may provide documentation from a licensed health care provider of having recovered from COVID-19 in the 90 days preceding travel. Check here for the most up to date information and plan accordingly, changes occur frequently.

Types of tests accepted and how to present your results

Fully vaccinated foreign travelers are able to travel to the United States across the Northern and Southwest borders with Canada and Mexico.

Arriving in Canada via air or land

If your Visa allows and you choose to fly into Canada, you will arrive at the Toronto Pearson International Airport. Toronto Pearson International Airport is about 1 ½ hours from campus (depending on traffic and bridge backups). A shuttle from Toronto Pearson Airport is your responsibility and can be arranged upon your arrival at the airport by visiting the shuttle kiosk located in the airport.

Updated information: Fully vaccinated travelers arriving by air or land, who have been in any country other than Canada and the United States in the 14 days prior to entry to Canada, will all be subject to arrival testing and enhanced public health measures. Travelers arriving by air may take connecting flights to their place of quarantine.

A COVID-19 PCR test will occur upon arrival at the airport and the traveler must await a negative result at a government-approved hotel.

The COVID protocols/restrictions change frequently- most up to date information

At this time, international students are not required to quarantine upon their arrival in New York State.  The CDC strongly recommends anyone engaging in international travel be fully vaccinated but at this point, it is not a requirement to enter.  International travelers are required, however, to have proof of a negative COVID test no more than 3 days before the flight or proof of COVID recovery from the past 3 months. Our state is referring all international travelers to review and abide by CDC guidelines, which can be found here:

Please note, this information is accurate as of today (07/13/21).  This can, and likely will, change so please continually check the CDC webpage, the NYS COVID page, and your Niagara University email for updates.

All international students are required to purchase health insurance through our provider, United Health Care.  You will be automatically enrolled in this insurance and the charge will be added to your student bill.  More information can be found here: and here:
