How did AEP help you as a college student? Did AEP prepare you for the major you ultimately declared?
AEP allowed me to reflect on my strengths, interests and personal goals without the anxiety of jumping into a misguided major. I was provided mentorship and support in a number of areas, including academic scheduling, class observations and involvement on campus. The highlights of my experience was developing relationships with the staff and the overall growth I achieved as a young professional.
How did Niagara prepare you for the “world of work” (i.e. key coursework, internships, clubs, etc.)?
Not only did NU prepare me academically, but also as leader. I stepped outside my comfort zone, got involved and built up my communications skills. I maintained a part-time work-study job, was an active member of Danceline, Executive Vice President of the Society of Human Resource Management, and participated in a B.A.S.I.C service trip. During my senior year, I obtained an internship and was offered a full-time position before graduation in May 2010. Looking back all of these experiences, they groomed me for the work ethic and polish needed to dive into the “real world.”
Do you have any advice for current Niagara students?
College life is extremely exciting. My advice is to make the most of your time and lead with integrity. Doors will open that you never thought were possible if you seek out opportunities and challenge yourself to try new things.
