Education That Makes a Difference

What to Expect at Room Selection

Room selection will take place in the MPR. Students must bring their student ID to room selection and check in at the registration table prior to their lottery time. Students should plan to arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled lottery time outlined below. Rising sophomores (class of 2016) will be emailed their lottery times on Tuesday, April 16.

  • 4:00 p.m. – numbers 1-1800
  • 5:00 p.m. – numbers 1801-2200
  • 5:45 p.m. – numbers 2201-2700
  • 6:45 p.m. – “super juniors” and numbers 2701-3000
  • 7:30 p.m. – numbers 3001-3300
  • 8:30 p.m. – numbers 3301-3600

Proxy forms are available here and in the Residence Life office for those students who cannot attend room selection – a member of each group or a designated student should bring the signed proxy form to room selection in order to select a room on behalf of that student. Emailed proxy forms (from an NU account) will also be accepted.

Each student will receive a lottery card, color coded by class year, with their name, ID and lottery number on it. Students will be called into selection in lottery order and will use the best lottery number out of their group to select a room. Before leaving, students will sign their housing contract.

A few things to keep in mind…

  • Designed single rooms are available in Lynch, O’Donoughue, Clet and Varsity Village. Anyone selecting a single will be charged the single room fee.
  • Students will not be permitted to sign up for a double room and request that it remain a single. Students desiring single rooms should opt for designed singles.
  • Students signing into double rooms alone should expect to receive a roommate

Blocking – Not only can you pull roommates in with your lottery number but you can block up to four connecting rooms for your friends. The rooms in the block must be next to each other and rooms chosen must be filled. All residence halls, except the apartments, are eligible for blocks including for single rooms. This will be granted first-come, first-served by lottery number and based on space availability.

Roommates – Still looking for a roommate? A Roommate Matching Book is available in the Residence Life Office for students who may be searching for roommates.
