Volunteer Opportunities

Thunder of Niagara Air Show

Border Community SERVICE have been asked to provide volunteers for the 2011 Thunder of Niagara Air Show taking place September 10 and 11 at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. The Air Show is slated to honor the memory of those affected 10 years ago in the September 11 attacks. This year's featured act will be the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, although a wide variety of military aircraft, aerobatic airplanes and vintage war birds will also be performing and on static display.

Volunteers are needed to assist both Saturday and Sunday in the following capacities:

  • Manning the Border Community SERVICE booth distributing materials and giveaways
  • Parking area attendants (directing vehicles to parking spots)
  • Assisting in Lost and Found booth
  • Assisting in water/food runs for all workers (law enforcement, military, volunteers, etc.)

Volunteers should plan on arriving at 7:30 a.m. to beat the rush of visitors, be briefed and allow time to get to your post. You should plan on staying until 6 p.m. or until traffic dissipates. Due to how the event is run, it is best that volunteers plan on staying the whole time. However, there will be some downtime in between that you can enjoy the Air Show and activities.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Air Show, contact Valerie Haseley, Niagara County Coordinator, at vhaseley@niagara.edu or 716.205.0076.

Niagara County Summer Events

Come out and enjoy some of Western New York’s Summer Events and help Border Community SERVICE at the same time. We are participating in fairs and festivals throughout Niagara County and volunteers are needed for four-hour shifts (or longer) to promote FEMA’s Ready Campaign material as well as Border Community SERVICE programs. Various shifts are available. Please contact Valerie Haseley, Niagara County Coordinator, at vhaseley@niagara.edu or 716.205.0076 if you are interested in volunteering for any of the events.
