Jobs and Graduate School Opportunities

Many career fields are open to Sociology majors, including social services, education, law enforcement, community development, non-profit agencies, and health care.  There are a variety of occupations open to Sociology majors, such as sales, human resources, and market research.  Sociology majors can work with adolescents or the elderly in a variety of settings.  They can become trained to work as substance abuse counselors.  They can pursue government jobs at local, state, and federal levels.

Students who graduate with a Sociology degree can obtain graduate education in several areas.  Graduate programs in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Social Work, and related fields are a possibility.  Law school is an option.  Programs that offer graduate degrees in the field of Education, such as School Counseling, are also an option.
