OVERVIEW

Individual students, in cooperation with the program coordinator, design a curriculum that addresses their broad interest in the social sciences and prepares them to achieve their academic and career goals. The courses necessary to fullfill a social science discipline, include a certain number of courses taken from the same discipline.   Approved disciplines include: Criminal Justice, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, or Social Work.*

SSC COURSES

  • SSC 400 Social Sciences Seminar (WI)

This course will allow advanced students of social science to
develop research skills used by the social science community of scholars.
There will be an opportunity for the students to apply these
research skills to a specific subject area of the discipline. This course
is required for all social science majors.- three semester hours

  • SSC 403 and 404 Honors Thesis I and II (WI)
    Individual research of a substantive nature pursued in the student’s
    major field of study. The research will conclude in a written thesis or
    an original project, and an oral defense.- six semester hours
  • SSC 493, 494, 495, 496 Social Science Internship Co-op
    A junior or senior work-study program providing relevant paid
    employment experience. The objective of the program is to integrate
    classroom theory and practical work experience, thus lending relevancy
    to learning and providing the student with a realistic exposure
    to career opportunities. Students interested in taking an internship/
    co-op should talk to their advisers.- zero to six semester hours

SOCIAL SCIENCES MINOR

The minor in social sciences explores the interdisciplinary nature of the social science disciplines.   The minor consists of 6 courses:

SSC 100 - Introduction to Social Sciences

Five courses from the following areas:

Criminal Justice

Economics

Political Science

Psychology

Social Work
