An economics professor and former dean of the College of Business Administration, Dr. Gary D. Praetzel was named director of Niagara University’s Institute of Travel, Hotel and Restaurant Administration in 1999. He assumed the dean’s role when the institute had its status changed to the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management in 2001. He joined the university in 1978 as a member of the faculty of the College of Business and subsequently served as dean from 19984 to 1992, filling the dual role of director of the MBA program. He holds a doctoral degree in economics from the University at Buffalo, where he also received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Prior to joining NU, he was an adviser to the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
