Jamie Pimlott, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor

Curriculum Vitae

Born in New Brunswick, Canada, Jamie moved to North Central Florida with her parents when she was 9. Taking advantage of a ‘dual enrollment’ program, she was able to graduate with an Associate of Arts degree just two months after graduating from high school. After a brief break, she enrolled at the University of Florida, where she received a Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, in history in December of 1998. Returning immediately to school, Jamie received a M.A. in American history with a minor in Latin American history and a minor in political science from the University of Florida in May of 2001.

After working briefly at the Center for Jewish Studies and the University Police Department—Community Services Division, Jamie returned once again to school to pursue her Doctorate in political science. While attending school, she taught history and political science at both Central Florida Community College and Santa Fe Community College. During her last few semesters of graduate school, she also taught her own courses in Political Behavior and Congress at the University of Florida. Jamie moved to Washington, D.C. in April 2006, where she spent 10 months working on grant-funded research examining money in state politics at the Campaign Finance Institute. Promoted to Research Analyst in the Spring of 2007, she worked exclusively on issues of campaign finance and the 2008 presidential election. In fact she was quoted in both Roll Call and Forbes for her research on candidate fundraising in the summer of 2007.

In the early summer Jamie accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Niagara University. Jamie is in the process of turning her dissertation, entitled “This is Not Your Mom’s Tupperware Party: How EMILY’s List Changed the American Political Landscape, 1984-2006” into a book. She is passionately interested in gender politics and in the U.S. Congress—but pretty much anything pertaining to campaigns and elections gets her riled up!

Jamie is currently enjoying the beautiful outdoors here in the Niagara region and can usually be found attempting to catch up to her boyfriend, daughter, and dog as they jog up the steps at Devils’ Hole.  Her homepage can be found at: http://purple.niagara.edu/jpimlott/.
