Q & A

Question: How does a student use the call waiting function in their dorm room?

Answer: The student who has call waiting activated will hear one very subtle tone indicating that an on campus call is waiting. Two subtle tones are heard for an off campus call. If the tone is never heard, then call waiting was deactivated for that extension probably because it conflicted with a modem. IT can easily reactivate the call waiting feature. The student must press and release the flash hook or press the flash button if the phone is equipped with one. A reorder dial tone will sound at which point the student must press [#][4] to put the first call on hold. He/she is now connected to the waiting call. A student can toggle between the two calls by repeating the procedure:

  1. press and release the flash hook or press the flash button
  2. hear reorder dial tone
  3. press [#][4] to be connected to the call on hold

A student who hangs up while a call is waiting or on hold, will receive a fast three ring burst as notification.

Question: Is caller ID available in the dorms?

Answer: Only in the apartments because the latest technology is installed there.
