APRIL 2008:
Diane Stoelting, coordinator of specialized support services, gave a presentation entitled "Engaging Diverse Learners by Design: Universal Design" at the annual Symposium of the New York College Learning Skills Association (NYCLSA) in Poughkeepsie, New York.
At this conference, Diane also received the award for
Outstanding Service to Students in the Field of Developmental Education.

JANUARY 2008:
Three staff members in the Office of Academic Support gave presentations at Niagara University's International Conference on Teaching and Learning. Sharon Green, reading coordinator, and Virginia Pasceri, academic skills specialist, presented "Moving Toward More Authentic Learner-Centered Vocabulary." Diane Stoelting, coordinator of specialized support services, presented
"Engaging Diverse Learners by Design: Universal Design.”
MAY 2007:
Congratulations to student aides Karen Young, Kristina Howard, and Elizabeth Riegelman, who earned their undergraduate degrees. We wish them all the best!
MARCH 2007:
Heather McEntarfer, writing coordinator, Sharon Green, reading coordinator, and Rita Pollard, former writing coordinator and current English professor, gave a presentation entitled "A New Voyage: Blending Reading, Writing, and Critical Thinking in a Three-Credit Critical Literacy course" at the annual symposium of the New York College Learning Skills Association (NYCLSA) in Canandaigua, New York. Their presentation described the development and content of Niagara University's Critical Literacy course (CRL 101) that debuted in Fall 2006.
Kelly Adams, disability specialist, and Diane Stoelting, coordinator of specialized support services, also gave a presentation at this conference, entitled "The Paperwork Trail in Disability Services.” Their presentation described the importance of establishing policies and procedures that clearly outline the responsibility of the student, the disability service provider, and faculty/campus administrator in the provision of accommodations.
FEBRUARY 2007:
Congratulations to:
- Vanessa Miller, a student aide in our office, who was nominated for Student Employee of the Year. Vanessa, from Elmira, New York, is a Social Work major.
- Greta Maines, also a student aide in our office, who will participate in the program for hospitality majors at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, in fall 2007.
APRIL 2006:

Patricia Kinner, Director of the Office of Academic Support, Dr. Rita Pollard, Associate Professor of English and Writing Coordinator in the Office of Academic Support, Diane Stoelting, Coordinator of Specialized Support Services, Sharon Green, Reading Coordinator in the Office of Academic Support, and Mary Kendzia, Math Coordinator in the Learning Center, gave a presentation entitled, “Collaboration and Rejuvenation through Outcomes Assessment Planning” at the annual Symposium of the New York College Learning Skills Association (NYCLSA) in Saratoga Springs, New York, on April 3, 2006. Their presentation described the work their office is doing on student learning outcomes.
