Mission Statement

The  Office of Academic Support contributes to students' academic achievement and fosters their independence as learners through teaching, testing, tutoring, and academic mentoring.

Several key principles guide our work:

  • Learning is a developmental process.
  • Academic support must be appropriate, given individual students' strengths and needs.
  • Our work with students and faculty must support the university's academic standards and mission.
  • Supporting students' development as competent, responsible, reflective, and self-confident learners is vital to their success not only at the university, but also in their future careers and in their lives as citizens.
  • Ongoing assessment and evaluation must inform our work with students.
  • Supporting students’ development as competent, responsible, reflective, and independent learners is vital to their success not only at the university, but also in their future careers and in their lives as citizens.

Students who successfully complete our courses/programs will:

  • Develop competencies vital to their academic success.
  • Demonstrate responsible academic behaviors.
  • Reflect upon their goals and achievements in ways that will support their academic success.
  • Develop greater independence as learners.
