How to Use the Writing Center...

Students may use the Writing Center on a drop-in basis or by special appointment. Help on a drop-in basis is available Mondays-Thursdays from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Students may arrange an appointment to see a tutor by calling Heather McEntarfer, Writing Center Coordinator, at 286-8075.

The most effective way to use the service is to follow these tips:

  • Meet with a tutor well before your paper is due.
  • Bring a copy of the assignment you are working on.
  • Bring course syllabi, texts, handouts, and notes with you that might be relevant to the assignment.
  • Try to meet with the same tutor each time you visit to work on a particular assignment.
  • Remember you do not necessarily need to have drafted all or part of the paper before you meet with a tutor.
  • Take notes during the conference so that you call recall the points you discussed with the tutor.
