Education That Makes a Difference

New Resident Student Information

Welcome!

We are so excited that you have chosen to join our residence life community. As you read on, you will discover that you are about to enter a unique and special environment that distinguishes Niagara from other universities. We have so much to offer and hope you take advantage of the numerous and ongoing programs, activities and resources available to you.

Our residences each have their own distinct character based both on their physical design and the vast differences and experiences of the students who live in them. As the students change each year, so too are our physical facilities constantly undergoing renovations and refurbishments to provide what is best for our students. From modern room furniture and comfortable lounges to practical kitchenettes and fun game tables, we are constantly using student input and desires as the basis for our decisions.

So please, get in touch with us - soon and often. We are here to provide support and ease your transition to college life at Niagara. We are looking forward to meeting you.

We are proud to say that all of our residences are living-learning communities. Deliberate programs and activities are put in place to provide environments that are supportive and engaging, fostering personal growth and providing learning and leadership opportunities. Connections with campus resources, faculty, staff and peers are encouraged and provide a web of support for students while deepening their general connection to the campus. Through these, we challenge students to better themselves and the world around them.

Living and Learning - Our Mission

Mission is critical to an institution. Our Catholic and Vincentian heritage guides our actions and informs our decisions. Niagara’s residence hall life seeks to develop the whole person — mind, body, heart and soul — for the benefit of one’s personal and professional life. With St. Vincent de Paul as our inspiration, we seek to inspire students to serve all members of society as well. Our programs and residence lifestyles encourage value-centered growth in the intellectual, emotional, physical, social and spiritual maturity of all students. This holistic approach helps develop informed, compassionate and capable graduates whose vision and values will enrich their lives and add to the betterment of society.

Living and Learning - Community Standards

Students living on campus are part of a community with certain rights and expectations. With increased freedom comes responsibility. Community standards are practiced in all residences and are shared agreements that define mutual expectations for how a community will function on an interpersonal level. They define how community members will treat each other and their environment, celebrate successes and address behavioral issues. Individual living-learning units will also develop their own mission and purpose statements. Students learn and develop through this process and create a healthy community for all.

Living and Learning - Programming

Residence Life programming is aimed to provide a holistic learning experience outside the classroom, emulating the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul. This is accomplished by fostering an environment that encourages growth through social and educational programming inclusive to our diverse residential population. The Vincentian Living Programming Module is designed to provide our residents the opportunity to grow intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially and spiritually through six core living components — Social, University, Service, Healthy, Educational and Diverse/Unified Living. These components enhance programming through teaching and helping students “learn to learn” by contributing to the positive education of the student.

Through each of the Vincentian Living Components, residents are offered a holistic living experience that promotes critical thinking, personal integrity and lifelong learning. Niagara’s Residence Life Program complements the university’s academic plan and prepares graduates with abilities and values that are beneficial to self and society.
